Art City Days Quilt Show Going On Now!

Growing up here in Springville, our week-long, summer city celebration has always held a special place in my heart. Art City Days is named in honor of our artistic roots, particularly that of our historic Museum of Art. Living on Main St. placed my childhood in the center of all the small-town activity. The parade passed my yard, the carnival and food booths were just over the bridge and the children's arts festival a short walk down the road. Though I don't live in the heart of festivities anymore, the nostalgia runs thick this week. My favorite activities have changed a bit. I still love our little parade. The car show is always fun. But my true favorite is the Art City Days Quilt Show! Entries come from all levels of experience from members of our own community. Lots of names and faces are friends from the quilt shop and it's so fun to see the variety of quilts finished right here in town over the past year! If you live close by, it's definitely worth a stop and it's going on today and tomorrow, June 7, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and June 8, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the "old gym" behind the Museum of Art (484 South 200 East, Springville). You might recognize some quilts from the Corn Wagon gals like the "Springville" quilt below, pieced by our own Julie Hancock! Many thanks to volunteers, Heidi Udall and Cathie Erickson for carrying this tradition forward.

City Celebrations are just the beginning of summer holidays for us here in Utah. Next comes Independence Day, July 4th and then Pioneer Day, July 24th when we celebrate Utah's statehood. Red, white and blue is definitely the palette for the season and we have lots of it in our classic Americana section! You'll find beautiful prints and wovens from French General and Minick and Simpson and a darling collection from Riley Blake featuring a cute vintage truck panel.

   Quilter's Corn-er
To help you get ready for the upcoming patriotic celebrations, our machine quilting motif-of-the-month is STARS. Bring in a quilt top during the month of June and request an edge-to-edge machine quilting design incorporating stars and you'll receive 20% off the regular price of quilting service! Let's see those red, white and blue beauties! Our employees will be happy to share the possibilities with you.

A GIANT thank you is in order for all of our guests that came out to the Utah Shop Hop 2019! We had so much fun greeting all of you. Your support means the world to us. We had lots of fun with our fairy tale theme of Jack and the Corn Stalk. All of our employees worked to pull together a stunning show of quilts as well as some fairy tale magic. Your love for our exclusive Shop Hop quilt designed by Emily Herrick blew us away! We sold out of kits the first day, whipped up as many as we could overnight and sold out again the next day! Our photo booth was also a BIG hit with GIANT sized sewing notions created by Stacy Giles and Amy Smith. They truly were SEW fun! As in years past, you may have noticed some photos of our Corn Wagon gals around the shop. Many thanks to Crystal Shelley for helping us play up our theme with some memorable snapshots. By the end of shop hop we're all feeling a bit corny, as evidenced below...

If you climbed our magic corn and bean stalk through the clouds and into the giants castle, you were met with one of my favorite displays from shop hop this year. Nestled into the giant's sewing room, this sweet and simple throw quilt pieced by Julie Hancock features the Gretel fabric collection by Amy Smart of Riley Blake. We a few kits left! Notice the playful machine quilting by Ramona Sorensen. This quilt pattern by Villa Rosa Designs goes together so quick you'll have it finished before the giant wakes up! Speaking of which, did you notice the harp music during the hop? We had to keep the magic harp playing so the giant would sleep through all that shopping!

We've seen some fabulous graduation quilts come through the shop these past few weeks! Our shop owner, Marsha Harward makes each of her grandchildren a quilt to commemorate their high school graduation. Each is unique! This one was made for her grandson using a modern and graphic design titled Paradise Cubed by Tamarinis.  These fabrics with subtle hints of typeface and circuitry
make for a perfect "guy quilt!" Kits and patterns are available in store now!

We've had many of you ask about our design boards at our new School House! Our contractor, Steve Morely and I teamed up to put these together based on a design that I drew up. We love the idea of hanging them on barn door hardware so each board can be used separately or together as shown in the above photo. We offer the grey flannel design grid by the yard here at the shop. It's easy to wrap and glue to a piece of foam insulation board using a spray adhesive - - both commonly found at the hardware store, that way you can stick pins in it for long-term projects. The wood frame makes any project you're designing a work of art. Some stylish task lighting above the board offers good form and function.
