Every new baby needs a quilt (or two...or three)! New baby quilts and gifts are here!

Like many of you, the first quilt I ever made was a baby quilt.  While I was eagerly awaiting the birth of my first son, eighteen years ago, I was working as an interior designer. I enjoyed the process of choosing fabrics and drafting up designs to be sent to talented seamstresses who brought ideas to life. Of course I knew exactly what I wanted my baby's nursery to look and feel like. I could draw it and even write instructions. But could I sew it? I decided it was time to give it a try. I collected just the right fabrics, drew up some designs, borrowed my mother's sewing machine and got to work making my own crib set including bumpers, dust ruffle and quilt. And that was it! I was hooked! I won't share a photo of that first quilt because, I'll be honest, as far as looks go, it was a quilt only a mother could love. The best part is, my son loved it too. I will, however, share the Baby Barn Star quilt I recently made for my niece. Even though my own babies are now teenagers, I've found plenty of reasons to make more baby quilts. All 20 of my nieces and nephews definitely need one. There's just something so special about making a quilt with the purpose of welcoming a little one into the world.

I love the way this sweet and simple Baby Barn Star Quilt came together using a pastel charm pack, a tiny white-on-grey polka dot background, delicate floral border and striped bias binding. The custom machine quilting by Emily Herrick couldn't be prettier! This pattern is one of four different Barn Star patterns by Coriander Quilts that can be pieced together into one large quilt including all four stars or separately as four smaller quilts like the one shown above. Come in and check out these unique patterns and while you're here, grab a kit!

Another adorable new addition to our baby quilt collection, Cuddles & Cones was pieced by Tami Johnson and machine quilted by Ramona Sorensen. A mix of modern solid hues make up bold stars against a variety of black and white Art Gallery Fabrics. Cute little forest creatures including otters, foxes, raccoons and bears are highlighted in bold boxes. We have kits for this quilt perfect for a sweet little girl or boy! Anytime I give a quilt as a gift for a new baby, I like to pair it with a sweet little something extra like this darling sweater set, pom pom hat & pacifier beads I spotted at the Quilter's Mercantile. That's where you'll find this quilt on display with kits for sale. Did you know we have a whole section of baby goods at the Merc?

Oh gosh, is it cute! The sweetest little outfits, playful hooded towels, stuffed lovies, nursery accents and more are ready for you to wrap up at the Quilter's Mercantile. Try some natural bee balm sunscreen/insect repellent created with that summer baby in mind. Don't have time to sew gauze bibs and swaddlers before the baby shower? We have some ready-made for a quick gift! Come in for a closer look and find the perfect something to pair with that baby quilt.

Want to piece a baby quilt but you're short on time? Two new baby panels have arrived from Art Gallery Fabrics! Lexi Lamb simply framed them with modern black and white prints and turned them over to Emily Herrick who dressed them up with some fabulous custom quilting. We have kits for both the Wooly Cute Baby Quilt (above) and the Beary Cute Baby Quilt (below). See what we did there? I especially love the choice of buffalo check minky for the backing on the bears! Either quilt would be a perfect addition to a sweetly modern nursery.

And for that little one who is bound for adventure, Suzanne Adams pieced the Wanderlust quilt by Atkinson Designs using Dear Stella fabrics that feature forest animals playing in a tree fort, swinging on tire swings and riding bikes. You've never seen cuter snails... and those hedgehogs! We have kits, yardage and patterns available at the quilt shop!

Another fast and fabulous baby gift from the Quilter's Mercantile... "Hi!" This clever little flag is paired with the softest jersey crawler welcoming the newest member of the crew.

Finally, how about some flannel! It's the softest thing for snuggling a little one and we have lots! The Safari Shuffle flannel baby quilt combines the use of a panel and a border print with more traditional piecing. Sunny but soft colors are perfect for these happy jungle animals pieced by Lynette Christensen. Speaking of flannel, did you know we offer hemstitching? We have a selection of flannel receiving blankets and burp cloths hemstitched and ready for you to crochet OR you may choose your own flannel combinations and Lynette will hemstitch around the edge for you!
