Camp Sew Fun for Kids & Quilts from our Children's Department

CAMP SEW FUN is back for Summer 2021!  Do you have a child who would love to learn how to piece a quilt? Camp Sew Fun offers three days of sewing time with two experienced instructors where kids will have the opportunity to finish their own quilt top! Our retreat rooms offer a comfortable and safe sewing environment where kids can build skills and develop creativity. This summer we will be making the Ella Jane quilt (shown below), designed by Elaine (Ella) Jackman. Last year at Camp Sew Fun, Ella showed us a picture of this cute quilt she had designed and made and we loved it! Her mom, Suzanne Jackman (Splendid Speck) made it into a pattern so we can all make our own version of Ella's quilt! Our sample quilt (now on display at the shop) features bright, whimsical fabrics by Heather Ross and a playful low-volume print with butterflies for the background. Come pick 12 of your own favorite fat quarters, add a background, and get ready to have SEW MUCH FUN!

  • Mon, July 12, Wed, July 14 and Thu, July 15 -- 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm

  • Retreat Center located upstairs at Corn Wagon Too directly behind the quilt shop.

We are so happy to be gathering in our classroom once again. All of our classes are currently offered in-person only. Now that the mask mandate has been lifted here in Utah, face coverings are optional in our stores and classrooms.

Beginning Quilting - Summer School
For adults seeking a summer learning experience, join our Beginning Quilting Class! Even seasoned quilters will learn something new from Janet Hansen in this 8-part Summer School. Janet has designed an ideal quilt for you to practice various techniques and perfect your new skills by finishing this 72" x 84" sampler quilt. This pattern is only available in-class. This class will be held on Thursdays from 6-9pm with two sessions in June, three sessions in July, and three sessions in August (8 Sessions). For full details including dates, supply lists and the chance to register, please visit our online list of classes.

Have you visited our children's department lately? We have lots of new fabrics and quilt kits for babies and kids of all ages! The lower level of our quilt shop houses our quilt goods catered to the more juvenile crowd including minky and Cuddle by Shannon Fabrics, baby flannel, hemstitching kits, double gauze for swaddle blankets and the cutest kids cottons you ever did see. We just finished hanging all new quilt samples in sizes and styles perfect for wrapping those little ones in love.

Prefect for your aspiring pilot, On the Go is the latest collection from Stacy Iest Hsu of Moda Fabrics. Julie Hancock pieced this fantastic Let's Fly quilt and Ramona Sorensen custom quilted clouds and swirls to finish this 61" x 72" throw quilt. We have boxed kits by Moda ready for you here at the quilt shop but they're flying fast!

Also from the On the Go collection, this adorable canvas play mat is scaled perfectly for kids to cruise their cars around the town. You could quilt this up or simply turn the edges for an easy unfold and play gift! I think I will add a few grommets around the edges and run a cord though so the kids can simply pull the string and store their cars right inside their new play mat on a hook in the closet. We have a few of these play mats available at the quilt shop as well as the coordinating fabrics from this adorable line.

You can never go wrong with a simple Baby Buffalo Plaid Quilt! When timeless gingham style is exaggerated using 6" squares, the result is clean, simple and modern, especially when done in black and white! Julie Hancock chose cotton prints from the Wee Adventure collection from Dear Stella for a fast and fresh nursery quilt. Large-scale cross-hatch quilting by Emily Herrick stays true to the simple design. And how about that pop of color on the back! Soft Cuddle fabric guarantees your little one will LOVE their new quilt.

We just can't stop with this Work Zone fabric by Windham! Constuction trucks, tools, nails and safety cones create a happy blend of focus fabrics and basics. Once again, Julie Hancock has put together a darling kids quilt, this time at 88" x 88" it's large enough to fit a bed. She used the Big Shot Quilt pattern by Center Street Quilts. You'll find it in her etsy shop or in our kits here in our children's department. Take a closer look at the custom machine quilting by Emily Herrick! Tire tracks and roadways curve across the quilt carrying your eye from block to block.

New Swaddle designs have arrived! Double Gauze has become a must-have for new moms to swaddle their newborns. 100% cotton gets softer with every wash and breathes easy for all seasons. You'll find styles for boys, girls and more neutral motifs to fit any nursery. Swaddle by Shannon Fabrics comes 48" wide so we recommend buying 1.25 yards for a generously sized receiving blanket. Simply roll the hem and stitch or choose one of our decorative bias tape trims with crochet for something special!

As you can see our children's department is chuck full of fun ideas! Stop in and see what's new. As mentioned last week, the Corn Wagon is receiving a fresh coat of paint, some some areas of our shop may be blocked off temporarily. If you're looking for something specific, we recommend calling ahead and we'll make sure what you need is easy to reach. Our painters are moving fast and we're told our children's department will be accessible this week so it's a great time to check it out!
