Introducing 2 Longarm Pros Joining our Team! PLUS: Fun new flannel quilts!

Machine quilting has been part of our repertoire from the beginning. Our longarm artists are some of the best around! Free-motion custom quilting has long been our specialty. Then, with the innovation of computerized designs, we added more longarmers to our team to provide a full spectrum of options for finishing your quilt masterpieces.

Dorene Johnson has been providing exceptional computerized E2E quilting for Corn Wagon for a few years now and it's bitter sweet to report she is retiring. Dorene has been a joy to work with and her talents have added just the right touch to many, many quilts passing through our shop. Her last day to accept quilts is tomorrow, November 16th. She will complete those currently in her queue and then will be venturing on to sunny St. George for the winter.  It's with grateful hearts that we wish her the best in her new retirement adventures!

We are excited to welcome two new longarm pros to our team! Both specialize in computerized edge-to-edge designs. Both are detail-oriented professionals with an artistic eye. Both have many years of experience. Both have quick turn-around times. And both will make fantastic Corn Wagon gals! Introducing Cheryl Wallin and Chelsea Hilton!

Hello! I’m Cheryl Wallin, a quilter, longarm quilter, quilt instructor and fabric collector from Saratoga Springs, Utah. I was hooked on quilting once I was introduced to it by my in-laws, both of whom are avid quilters, 16 years ago. For me, quilting is the perfect combination of creativity and technical challenge, all in the name of creating something useful and beautiful.

In addition to quilting, I am the mother of 5 amazing young adult children, 3 of whom are married to amazing spouses and I'm a Grammy to 4 fantastic grandchildren….who I love more than quilting. I’m married to the love of my life, who owns and operates his own trucking company, leaving me lots of time to quilt while he’s on the road.

I love fabric! And it will probably take me a lifetime to use up my fabric stash, but that doesn’t stop me from buying just about everything from Art Gallery Fabrics and all types of fabric that fall into the bright color scheme. I love HST and foundation paper piecing. And would you believe that picking out the fabric is my favorite part of the quilting process. For me, I need obtainable finishes, because I have a busy life - day job and grands! I love to teach and meet new people. My quilt friends are the best!!

You may recognize Cheryl from one of many classes she has taught here at the schoolhouse (she has two upcoming -- be sure to check them out). Cheryl specializes in edge-to-edge designs and has a full catalog of options for you to choose from. The quilt above was pieced and quilted by Cheryl with the Dizzy Izzy pantograph. Isn't it perfect for this quilt?

Hi! My name is Chelsea Hilton, and I’m a quilter. I have a passion for fabric, color and details. I love sewing and creating. I design quilt patterns that are available in my online store. I worked for a longarm quilter which made me realize my passion for helping people finish their quilts in beautiful ways.

I pride myself on attention to detail and precision. I recently purchased a Gammill Ascend Statler Stitcher longarm machine, which is the most accurate computerized quilting machine on the market. With this amazing machine I can offer unparalleled computerized quilting to complete your unique quilt. I would love the opportunity to work with you on making your quilt the best that it can be.

Chelsea specializes in computerized designs, both edge-to-edge and more custom computerized details such as centering designs by block, for borders, or outlining. For example, she made the paper airplane quilt, above, out of little boys shirts for a friend, where she trimmed out the objects allowing E2E throughout the background but no quilting on the paper airplanes. Another example of the possibilities, Chelsea centered computerized details throughout the blocks and sashing for this red and white beauty.

Ramona Sorensen remains our custom, free-motion master. Ramona is a nationally recognized quilter. She has been quilting at the Corn Wagon for 20 years and we are indeed lucky to have her as part of our team. Her original quilt designs and machine quilting have been published more than 50 times in several quilting magazines including Quilters’ Newsletter, McCalls Quilting, Quilt Magazine, Fons & Porter and American Patchwork & Quilting. She has over 100 of her own original designs, all free hand, and many more options and ideas to choose from. She is known to lay a quilt out for a time and allow it to tell her what it needs. Ramona would be happy to sit down and have a quilt consultation with you to discuss the endless possibilities!

The last day to submit quilts for Christmas delivery for computerized edge-to-edge or computerized custom designs (Cheryl or Chelsea) is December 1st.

Ramona's custom quilting queue for Christmas delivery is now closed.

Now Accepting Applications!
We are looking to add another custom, free-motion (not computerized) quilting professional to our team of longarmers. If you or someone you know fits this description, resumes may be emailed to info@cornwagonquilts.com. Please include some photos of your work. We would love to meet for an interview!

Tis the season to snuggle and flannel is the fabric of choice! Not all flannel is the same. Think about bed sheets -- the higher the thread count and more plush the brushing, the better they wash and softer they stay. The cotton flannel you'll find on our shelves is a high thread count, quilter's quality fabric that lasts, from companies you can count on like Art Gallery and Robert Kaufman. Flannel is for everyone from babies to big guys; we all need a cozy flannel quilt to get us through the colder months ahead.

The Hugs quilt (above) was pieced by Kathe Torgerson using Gentle Night Flannel from Robert Kaufman providing the coziest quilt for babies, kids or even grown-ups! Neutral colors are a nice match for any nursery. Our kit includes a complimentary copy of the free pattern found at https://www.robertkaufman.com/ as well as flannel fabrics as shown for piecing the 60" x 70" quilt top and binding for $99.99.

Suzanne Jackman turned the Perfect Picnic Quilt by Ruby Star Society into the perfect snuggler quilt by using the softest cotton flannels you've ever felt. This gingham style quilt will be your new favorite to cozy up with. Dachshund Wiggles paired with Plaid of my Dreams and Solid Pink Clay, all flannels by Art Gallery Fabrics, make this one especially fun! Our kit includes a complimentary copy of the free pattern by Ruby Star Society (available here) as well as flannels shown, for piecing the 67" x 67" quilt top and binding for $89.99. P.S. How cute is Suzanne in her doggy sweater! It's a perfect pairing!
