Is there snow in the forecast? The winter storms we usually see here in Utah Valley continue to evade us. While I'm glad to see the powder hit the mountains (skier here), I'm missing the snowflakes at home. I'll just have to get my frosty fix making snowmen out of fabric -- because fabric seems to be the solution to all my woes. Apparently we have a thing for snowmen here at Corn Wagon. From miniature wooly snowman decor to larger than life snowman quilts, we can keep you busy sewing right on through the winter season.
This friendly patchwork snowman is off for a wagon ride under a quilted starry sky. Good thing he's bundled up in his best snow hat, scarf, and mittens! The Quilted Snowman finishes at 87.5" x 97.5," which means it's large enough to use as seasonal bedding for a long winter's nap. Our kit includes the pattern by Lori Holt as well as fabric from her Home Town Holiday collection by Riley Blake designs for piecing the quilt top and binding as shown here. Traditional piecing methods used throughout. Lynette Christensen made our cute sample and says he was really fun to build! We also have patterns so you can build him from your own stash of scraps.
For our sample, shown in the shop, Karen Averett used our kit to make the center snowman panel from the original quilt into the wall quilt we have on display. The snowball border blocks are a unique addition added by Karen using the excess fabric from the kit. Karen will use the large border star blocks from the original design to make a separate quilt. She still had enough fabric for this cute bonus snowman door quilt!

And finally, our tiniest snowmen, The Winter Friends Banner (below) by All Through the Night includes a pre-printed background panel for the banner. We've added to the kit with hand-dyed, felted wool for applique, buttons for embellishment and cotton fabric for the backing and tie. This one goes together in a jiffy for a fast, fun addition to your decor. Wouldn't it make a darling gift?

The registration deadline for our NEW Corn Wagon Mystery Sampler is approaching (December 15th)! This 10-month program will begin the 2nd Saturday in January and continue with monthly kits through October 2025. To celebrate Corn Wagon's 25 years in business, this quilt will feature 25 blocks in a neutral, silvery taupe color scheme with black accents. I thought I'd take a moment to answer some FAQs:
- How difficult will the blocks be? This quilt will be made using traditional piecing methods. No applique. No paper-piecing. You will learn different techniques for piecing some well known block elements. Access to monthly YouTube tutorials are included in this club for additional support. Confident beginners may learn something new while advanced quilters will enjoy some traditional quilting.
- How big is the finished quilt? Approximately 74" x 82."
- Who is the featured designer for 2025? Ramona Sorensen, has been with Corn Wagon for 20 years. She is our free-motion quilting specialist. Ramona has designed, pieced and quilted more than 50 unique quilts featured in publications such as Fons & Porter, Love of Quilting, Quick & Easy Quilts, Quiltmaker, McCall's Quilting and Quilter's Newsletter. Ramona's creative mind often has her dreaming up designs in her sleep. When she's not busy at the longarm, she's doodling designs perfectly suited for all things quilty.
- If I live far away, can I still participate? Yes! In fact, for the first time ever, we will be allowing our quilty friends from afar (more than 50 miles from Corn Wagon Quilt Co.) to take advantage of the chance to receive free kits shipped to their address. Register as usual, here, then contact Jen Tanner at the shop (801-491-3551 ext. 2) to confirm your location and contact information. When you email a photo of your finished assignment to Jen by the 2nd Saturday of each month (no exceptions to this rule), your next kit will be free! $5.99 shipping charge applies monthly. Your credit card securely held on file will automatically be charged each month.
- What's included with my $90 registration fee? This fee includes your membership in the club (offering exclusive monthly coupons and support via YouTube tutorials) the cost of your monthly patterns, and your finishing kit with borders and binding.
We're happy to answer any other questions you may have. Give us a call at the shop or pop in and see this pretty stack of fabric in person. We think you're going to love what we have in store for you this year. Join us in our Silver Celebration for 2025!
