Attention all makers: those who are hooked on making bags, those who would like to give them a whirl, and all those "bagineers" in between, we've got something special in the works just for you... Introducing our new Bag Makers Department! Many of you have asked where you'll find bag making supplies now that Joann's is closing. We already have a great selection of fabrics perfect for bags, including designer linen/cotton canvas solids and prints, but how about interfacing, zippers, hardware, vinyl, webbing, mesh... the nitty-gritty details that the best bag patterns call for? We've started bringing them in! 

We consulted two local bag making aficionados, Kaitlyn Howell and Shelley Taylor, for a list of must-have supplies to keep on hand and here's what we're carrying so far:

• Atkinson colored zippers in 14" (just $1.99) and 22" (just $2.49)

To kick things off, we've got a collaboration going with Kaitlyn of Knot+Thread! She has been so helpful in getting this started. We have some of her awesome samples on display and a great selection of her patterns on hand. You'll find all-inclusive kits popping up, like the one now available in-store and online, shown below. 


Kaitlyn is an accomplished quilter, long-armer and bag designer that lives right here in Utah County. From her website,"Many quilters love the idea of being able to branch out from two-dimensional creations, but they are intimidated by the transition to bag-making. We specialize in making bag-making simple." That ideal is exactly what we hope to incorporate here at The Wagon and we are grateful to have Kaitlyn's guidance.

To support that approach, Shelley Taylor has added even more bag classes to our Schoolhouse schedule. With courses for beginners and advanced makers alike, we've found Shelley's experience indispensable to figuring out the best techniques for the rapidly expanding world of bag making! 

Something NEW we've got in the line up; Bagineer Open Sew! Bring ANY bag project you've been working on and Shelley will help you sort out a solid finish. Our first date is June 28th, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Reserve your seat (only 8 available to ensure all get the support they need) for just $25, then gather your supplies and sit in on a day of helpful sewing time.

The next installment of our Quilt of the Month series, Jumbo Strings is a generously sized, 72" x 81" throw quilt that's fat quarter friendly and easy to make! Large half square triangles are finished with simple stitch-and-flip corners. The layout creates a striking, string-style mosaic of energetic diamond shapes.
