Flamingo Days are here again! Marsha's most beloved feathered friends have arrived to celebrate her birthday in the pinkest way possible. You're invited to our annual Pink Party Sale today and tomorrow, July 11th & 12th, where all things pink are 20% off! As you may have noticed, the flock has grown to a rather unmanageable size (only a few are pictured below). It may be time for them to go to another flamingo-loving home...
Would you open your heart to one of our pink pals? We'll be hosting a flamingo adoption event during the Pink Party! When you make a donation of any size to Marsha's chosen charity, One Common Thread, you can choose one of her prized pet flamingos to take home with you. Even $1.00 can make a difference! One flamingo per person, please.
The smiles these funny birds have bought through the years are many and happy memories are attached to each one. Thanks to each of you who have added to the joy. It's going to be hard for Marsha to say goodbye. It will be easier knowing they can sit next to someone elses sewing machine and feel right at home.

Your donation to One Common Thread matters. Here's how:
-
At One Common Thread we provide work for women living in poverty in Central America. Every woman is taught the skill of English Paper Piecing so she can make hexagon quilts in a variety of sizes. Each of our women are paid an agreed upon price for every quilt they make and every hexagon they produce so they can have a sustainable income.
-
Once the quilts are sold we turn around and use the proceeds and donations to buy building materials to improve their living conditions. We purchase ovens to replace open fires inside of the home, and refrigerators to keep food lasting longer. We also help the women with medical care and education expenses for themselves and their children.
-
In Honduras most people in poverty only have a 6th grade education because that is when the government stops paying for public education. That leaves girls especially vulnerable to staying home to take care of siblings so the mother can work washing clothes for neighbors or begging with the children on the street. Our aim is to keep those children all in school with the supplies necessary to complete their secondary education.
-
We have so many hopes and dreams for these women as we continue to help them believe in themselves, and pursue a better future.
ONE COMMON THREAD MISSION
Empowering women in Central America,
by developing self-worth with an opportunity to work,
receive a sustainable income,
and set a new standard for their children.
We do that one hexagon at a time.
If you're not able to attend our flamingo adoption event but would still like to donate, we encourage you to do so on their website:

Might you be wondering about that fabulous flamingo quilt in the middle of the flock? Flamingo Sisters was made by Jenni Adrist using the EasyPiecing Grid by TenSisters Handicraft. Unfortunately it's not up for adoption but we have kits (and they just happen to be pink... hint, hint...)! You can find instructions for this quilt on the TenSisters website here, as well as great tutorials on how to use the grid by Carmen Geddes!

Here's another pink cutie you could pick up on sale! Simply Swoon is indeed swoon-worthy. You've seen the original, best-selling Swoon pattern by Thimble Blossoms but what happens when you enlarge the block to create a one-block baby quilt? You end up with a darling, easy to make snuggler that's sure to become a favorite. Our kit includes the Simply Swoon pattern and yardage for piecing the 42" x 42" quilt top and binding. We recommend a soft minky backing (sold separately) and how sweet is the floral E2E quilting by Chelsea Hilton!

Each flower block is referred to as a “Petal” that measures approximately 8". The variety of flowers (including holiday favorites) and the versatility of the blocks will make this a favorite for seasons to come.
Each month you will receive a kit containing 5” wool squares to make the featured flower, plus 10” x 10” cream and black wool squares for the backgrounds. Patterns will be included in your August and January kits with instructions for each six-month season. Threads are sold separately.
