High Voltage Color! Plus: Nightingale Zipper Case Class

"Hey Jen, what's your favorite color?" That's an unfair question. As Kaffe Fassett says, "That's like choosing a favorite child." They're all my favorite in their own unique way. Just gimme all the color! Our human relationship with color is emotional, symbolic, interpretive... that's why it's such an essential element of artistic design. Art at its core is a creative form of communication and color has a lot to say.

Last week we focused on pastel tints evoking gentle, calm, refreshing feelings. This week, let's talk high energy, fully saturated color -- pure hues across the spectrum. Do they speak your language? Can you hear what they say? Do they shout? As we look at two new quilts on display and three new fabric collections, notice how their vibrancy stirs your senses and memories.

If you crave color, our modern quilting department offers some serious eye candy. Fully immersed, the Ruby Sue quilt by Lo & Behold is a true color bath. Notice how the high contrasting colors add energy to the design. Can you feel the energy vibrating from this quilt? Lynette Christensen chose on-trend solid colors to piece this 72" x 80" quilt and Chelsea Hilton's E2E Arches quilting adds a whole new dimension.

Remember the delicious Vegetable Patch fabric I recently showed you? How fun is this bold ode to the garden Marianne Michaels made? She fussy-cut the prints to create an intriguing design. The result is as lively as radiant sunshine. Another fun kit made from this unique collection, The Carrot Quilt is a fresh, whimsical 36" x 40" wall quilt with mouthwatering modern flair.

Nobody does color like Ruby Star Society. Their modern palettes are both current and nostalgic. Do they transport you back in time? Do they summon a smile? Do they inspire your imagination? If so, mission accomplished! Their color combos are something that can't be ignored. Did you know we have a whole wall dedicated to Ruby Star collections? The newest addition, Trinketry is here but it won't be for long.

Woven fabrics are a fantastic place to discover saturated color with the added benefit of texture. New Check Mates from Anna Maria have a sateen look and feel, and a new collection called Intervals from Figo Fabrics has highly sought after clipped texture and simple weaves.

Color-filled quilts are infused with the vibrancy of youth. Think of the full-spectrum fun in fairytale illustration and film animation. The color is engaging, full of action and spirit. The range of blues, greens and golds in the quilt below help tell the story of Peter Pan in this version of the Peanut Butter Quilt by Then Came June. Just a few of the prints highlight the characters. The rest of the prints are blenders that help carry the tale. Pieced by Angie Pope and quilted by Chelsea Hilton.

Already a master of color, Genesis Hall is currently the youngest designer in the quilting and sewing industry! At 16, she's an award winning sewist now designing for Riley Blake. We recently received her first collection, The Genesis of a Journey and it's absolutely magical. Delightful colors highlight all the energy of adventure. Be sure to follow @gennyfromthequiltblock for some serious inspiration from the next generation!
